Work-based learning in its various forms is widely used across the UK higher education sector and work-based learning modules are now offered in many History degrees. While there are many discussions about the assessment of work-based learning, these tend to be explorations of theoretical issues or specific case studies. There appears to be little work surveying work-based learning assessment practices. This presentation reports on the recent SACWG survey of the ways in which work-based learning is assessed. The survey provides the context for a consideration of the assessment of work-based learning on a sample of undergraduate History programmes and of the wider implications of this type of assessment.
